Driver running red light blamed in fatal Kansas crash

KANSAS CITY —One person died in an accident just before 7p.m. Sunday in Kansas City, Kansas.

An eastbound vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and ran the stop sign at North 38th and Parallel Parkway, according to a Nancy Chartrand with Kansas City Police.

The vehicle struck a vehicle that was northbound on 38th and had entered the intersection at a green light.  The impact caused the northbound vehicle to roll several times before coming to rest in the eastbound lanes of Parallel Parkway.

The eastbound vehicle crossed the media and westbound lanes of Parallel Parkway and before coming to a stop when it struck a retaining wall.

The driver of the northbound vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. EMS transported the speeding vehicle to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 

Police did not release names of the drivers. The accident remains under investigation.
