HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson Airport Manager Pieter Miller talked to the Hutchinson City Council Tuesday about changing the scope of work at the airport on its pavement maintenance project associated with the Wells Aircraft parking apron and taxi-lane since bids for the project as a whole came in well above engineer's estimates.
"The total grant project, when it was scoped back in 2019 was just under $300,000 was the engineer's estimate, about $293,000. That's why the grant that we put in was only for 90% of that, about $263,000. Things are a little more expensive now than it was in 2019. We worked with Ward Davis and we've decided to basically phase this project."
The part that they are leaving out is an area where economies of scale could help on the price.
"We removed the crack seal and seal coat portion of this project," Miller said. "We plan to include that as part of the residential mill and overlay project that bids, usually late this year, so we would get a much better price per linear foot for the seal coat. Ward was amenable to this. We're just going to be doing the pavement repair portions, the concrete work, the drainage improvements."
The council approved the contract with Ward Davis for $181,429.75.
