The Hutchinson Community College football team did its part on Saturday while unbeaten Iowa Western had a bye week.
Now for the fourth-straight year, the Blue Dragons and Reivers will clash as the top two teams in the NJCAA national rankings.
Since the preseason rankings were issued in August, Iowa Western has been No. 1 with Hutchinson at No. 2. Nothing has changed through the first four weeks of the regular season meaning the No. 2-ranked Blue Dragons play host to the top-ranked Reivers at 12:02 p.m. on Saturday at Gowans Stadium.
Saturday's matchup is just the 14th all-time in a series that started in 2014. This will be the fifth No. 1-vs.-No. 2 matchup between the Blue Dragons and Reivers and the eighth all-time matchup that one of the teams were ranked No. 1. Of the first 13 meetings, the Blue Dragons and Reivers have both met as ranked teams 11 times.
Hutchinson improved to 4-0 this season after a 24-0 win at No. 12 Butler on Saturday. The Reivers were off this week, but defeated Dodge City 31-0 on September 12.
The Blue Dragons extended their program record for longest consecutive run in the national poll to 69 weeks. The Dragons have been ranked in the top three of the NJCAA Rankings for 63 consecutive polls and have been ranked No. 1 in 51 of the 88 polls released in the Drew Dallas era.
The Top 8 teams all remained the same this week. After the Reivers and Blue Dragons, Mississippi Gulf Coast is No. 3, Georgia Military is No. 4 and East Mississippi is No. 5.
Future Blue Dragon opponent NEO is No. 6. Iowa Central, another future opponent is No. 10. Butler and Dodge City are receiving votes.
