Hutchinson Community College cross country runners Letsepa Prince Madume and Ashara Frater pulled off a Blue Dragon program first on Wednesday.

By virtue of winning their respective races at the Fort Hays State University Tiger Open last Saturday, Madume and Frater were both named the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association NJCAA Division I National Runners of the Week.

Then on Tuesday, the victorious Blue Dragon duo earned Jayhawk Conference Men's and Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week honors.

Madume and Frater both completed the weekly awards sweep when the NJCAA announced both as its Division I Men's and Women's National Runners of the Week.

This is the first time ever that Blue Dragon runners claimed all three awards in the same week. Andrew Kibet earned a men's sweep in 2018 and Mildred Rono completed the sweep on the women's side in 2025.

Madume, a freshman from Johannesburg, South Africa has now won three KJCCC weekly honors and two NJCAA awards this season. With this week's USTFCCCA award, Madume has won that honor in back-to-back weeks.

Madume earned his second race championship of the season with a personal 8K best-time of 24:11.10, which was 1.90 seconds faster than his time posted at the Chile Pepper Festival last week when he was named USTFCCCA Men's NJCAA I National Runner of the Week

Madume moved past Dennis Weber into seventh place on the Blue Dragon Cross Country all-time 8K list.

Frater earned her second career individual championship at the Tiger Open. The sophomore from Trelawly, Jamaica, posted a time of 17 minutes, 37.71 seconds to win the race by 2.7 seconds over unattached runner Sophia Christensen.

Frater, an NJCAA All-American runners as a freshman in 2025, also won the Terry Masterson Twilight Classic in August at Fun Valley. Saturday's time was her second-fastest 5K time this season. She ran 17:28.7 last week at the Chile Pepper Festival.

Frater has twice been named the NJCAA and KJCCC runner of the week. This is her first USTFCCCA national award.
