BUHLER, Kan. — Buhler USD 313 let its patrons know earlier this month that school meals will continue to be free for all students in the 2021-22 school year. However, it is still important for all students to fill out their free and reduced lunch application.
"A lot of our funding is based upon the percentage of free and reduced students we have in the district," said USD 313 Superintendent Cindy Couchman. "You want to lower your student to teacher ratio. Title funds help fund teaching positions, interventionists, to address those learning needs that sometimes students have."
You might be surprised at the income levels that qualify for these programs.
"It does generate many kinds of funding and not only those resources, but lots of times, federal monies are based upon those percentages," Couchman said. "ESSER II and, I understand we're going to be getting some ESSER III money, will be based upon those free and reduced numbers."
