Beulah Wauneta “Sue’ Christensen joined her beloved Savior on Friday, February 18, 2022, in Topeka. Sue was born in Pratt County, on February 28, 1926.
She is survived by her devoted son, Gary Christensen and his wife, Jayne, of Topeka; her sister, Dorothy Keevert of Elk City, Oklahoma; many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Sue is preceded in death by her parents, Merle and Beulah Stover Robbins; her husband, William “Bill”Christensen; brothers, Earl Robbins and Vernon Robbins; and sisters, Wanda Green and Rita Whitfield.
Sue loved Barber County, Kansas, where she grew up on a horse farm near Lake City. She attended elementary school taught by her mother in a one room schoolhouse near Lake City. She graduated at the top of her class from Pratt High School in 1944. Sue loved being outdoors with her horse, Flash. An excellent rider, she competed in barrel racing
competitions, once winning the top prize of a saddle. After high School she began working for KP&L, and after 44 years of service to that company, retired in 1988.
In 1946, Sue married William Christensen and they welcomed their son, Gary, in 1954. Bill, Sue and Gary traveled the western United States in the summers, camping, fishing and sightseeing. Many happy years were spent as members of the Pratt Fire Lighters Camping Club and the Pratt Promenaders square dancing club.
After Sue retired, she and Bill spent winters in Rockport, Texas, with Pratt friends, and the summers were spent RVing across the US and Canada. Gary and Jayne would join them for great weekends of boating and fishing and grilling the catch of the day.
Sue was an active, lifelong member of the First Baptist Church in Pratt.
In 2015, Sue moved to Presbyterian Manor in Topeka, to be near Gary and Jayne. She leaves many new friends who will miss her kind nature and sweet smile.
Her funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 22, at Wanamaker Woods Church of the Nazarene in Topeka, with a 1:00 pm graveside service Wednesday February 23, 2022 at Greenlawn Cemetery, Pratt.
