HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Animal Shelter is hoping a Halloween-themed promotion will help find homes for animals as the facility deals with crowded kennels.
The shelter is launching its “Trick or Treat… Adopt Something Sweet!” promotion Saturday, Oct. 17, offering reduced mystery adoption fees through Halloween.
Shelter officials say the facility is “frighteningly full,” with kennels nearing capacity. The promotion gives potential adopters two ways to receive a discounted adoption fee.
Those choosing a “treat” can select a piece of candy from a Halloween bowl to reveal their mystery reduced adoption fee.
Those willing to perform a “trick” can receive an even lower surprise adoption fee. The trick can include telling a joke, dancing, doing a monster impression or performing another lighthearted stunt of the adopter’s choosing.
Participants first select the animal they would like to adopt and then decide whether to take the “trick” or “treat” option before learning their discounted adoption fee.
The shelter says the goal is to add some Halloween fun to the adoption process while creating additional incentive for people to provide permanent homes for animals currently at the facility.
“Our kennels are full, our candy bowl is ready, and our animals are just waiting for someone to fall under their spell,” the shelter said in announcing the promotion.
The “Trick or Treat… Adopt Something Sweet!” adoption special runs from Saturday, Oct. 17, through Saturday, Oct. 31. The promotion ends at 5:30 p.m. on Halloween.
The Hutchinson Animal Shelter is located at 1501 South Severance Street.
