Monarchs take first loss to Derby Wednesday

DERBY — The Derby Twins won Wednesday night over the Hutchinson Monarchs 6-2 at Panther Park in Derby.

The Twins broke through with a pair of runs in the fourth, the Monarchs bounced back in their half of the fifth to cut the lead to one run, but Derby also scored in the bottom half to make it 3-1 after 5. The Twins plated three in the seventh to put the game out of reach and the Monarchs closed out the scoring with a single tally in the eighth.

It was a strong pitching night for Derby, with Joe Wolf going five innings and giving up just one earned run on two hits and striking out three. Zach Trevino then tossed two scoreless frames and Murphy Bostick and Karson Shephard each worked single innings in relief, with Bostick giving up Hutch's eighth inning run.

Hutchinson is now 3-1 on the season. Derby improves to 6-2. The two teams have Thursday off before playing again Friday in Derby and Saturday in Hutchinson.
