HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A new locally owned automotive repair shop is set to open in Hutchinson, backed by regional economic development partners focused on supporting small business growth.
Forged Automotive LLC, founded by Hutchinson native Elijah Crist, has secured an E-Community Loan through a collaboration between StartUp Hutch and NetWork Kansas. The business is preparing to open its doors at 800 South Main Street.
Forged Automotive will operate as a full-service automotive repair and maintenance shop, offering services for most makes and models. In addition to traditional repair work, the business plans to introduce a do-it-yourself (DIY) workspace, allowing customers to work on their own vehicles using professional-grade tools and shop space.
The shop will also host hands-on educational clinics aimed at helping community members build practical automotive skills.
Graham Klemme, executive director of StartUp Hutch, said the business reflects the type of entrepreneurship the organization seeks to cultivate.
“Forged Automotive represents exactly the kind of thoughtful, community-focused entrepreneurship we want to support,” Klemme said. “Elijah brings deep industry experience and a unique model that meets a real local need while creating opportunities for education, workforce development, and long-term economic growth in Reno County.”
Crist brings nearly two decades of experience in the automotive industry, including leadership roles focused on service operations and quality control. His vision for Forged Automotive centers on transparency and accessibility, combining traditional repair services with educational opportunities.
A key component of the business will be a membership-based DIY program, which will allow customers to rent shop space, access tools, and receive technical guidance during designated hours.
Local leaders say the project highlights the continued impact of E-Community partnerships in supporting small business development and expanding economic opportunities across Reno County.
Forged Automotive is expected to open in the coming months.
