Ernest Earl “Ernie” Stackhouse, 87, of Medicine Lodge, KS passed away Monday, June 14, 2021 at Ascension Via Christi-St. Francis Hospital, Wichita, KS.
He was born on November 30, 1933 in Geneseo, KS, the son of Bertha Stackhouse McKinzie. A resident of Medicine Lodge, KS, since 1963, he was retired from what was then the Cities Service Gas Company. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge and a lifetime member of the Peacemakers chapter of the Kansas Campers Association. He was of the Christian faith.
On January 1, 1954, he married Audra Ann “Audie” Nodurft at Lyons, KS. Audie passed away on May 26, 2009. He is survived by one daughter, Rosemarie (Jim) Evans of Medicine Lodge, KS; two sons, Gregg Stackhouse of Medicine Lodge, KS and Bob (Mary) Stackhouse of Cunningham, KS; daughter-in-law, Carla Stackhouse of Medicine Lodge, KS; five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, wife, and his brother, Jerry McKinzie.
Ernie loved camping, watching the neighborhood from his front porch swing, and holding down his chair while watching RFD TV. He graduated from Geneseo High School in 1951 and attended the GHS alumni banquet every year from graduation until 2021 (except for 2020 when it was canceled due to COVID-19).
Cremation has taken place. A come-and-go visitation will be held on Saturday, June 19, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Larrison Funeral Home, 120 E. Lincoln, Medicine Lodge, KS 67104, to celebrate and to share stories of Ernie’s life. A graveside service will be held at a later date at the Lyons Municipal Cemetery, Lyons, KS, at which time Ernie’s and Audie’s cremains will be interred.
