Lola Jane "Lou" Fensky | 1936 - 2021 |

Posted Jan 20, 2021 12:21 AM

Lola Jane “Lou” Krehbiel Fensky was born June 3, 1936, in Moundridge, Kansas, to Herbert and Esther (Goering) Krehbiel. She died on Jan. 19, 2021, at Pine Village in Moundridge.

Lou married Myron Fensky on June 13, 1954, shortly after graduating from Moundridge High School. Together they farmed and raised three sons, Steven, Brion (Kathy), and Luke (Rachel), all of Moundridge; and one daughter, Carmen (Karl) Jungbluth, Boone, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Myron; and all of her siblings, brothers, Kenneth and Herbert, and sisters, Kathleen Stucky and Dorothy Goering.

She worked at the Citizens State Bank in Moundridge for 23 years, retiring in 2003.

Lou started every day with morning devotions and entries in her journal, recording the weather and what she was thankful for. She was a shining example to family and friends of unconditional love and faith in God.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, active in LWML, serving as a Sunday school teacher, church treasurer, and retiring in 2015 from a life-long commitment as organist. She loved music and singing. It was difficult for her to see the church close in December, but she was thankful that the building would have a new life as the Moundridge Public Library.

Lou was an avid reader, never without a book. She kept a list of every book she read, averaging 50 books a year. She also kept lists of church attendance, rainfall, and how many card games were won by men vs. women! If she had you over for a meal, she would record the menu so as not to repeat it too often.

She enjoyed traveling, visiting museums everywhere she went. She especially enjoyed bus trips visiting 39 states and Washington, D.C. (yes, she had a list.)

She loved to quilt, making special quilts for her family, plus working on mission quilts at church and quilting at the Moundridge Senior Center. For many years, she led the Monday devotions at the Center.

After Myron’s death in 2009, Lou expanded her circle of friends by volunteering at the Hesston Area Senior Center. She enjoyed serving as a receptionist and baking cookies for coffee time. She also learned to play bridge. It was there she met her special friend, John McGehee, gaining a companion and another family to love.

Lou was the best pie, peppernut, and poppyseed roll baker in the family.  We all enjoyed gathering around her table.  She was a blessing – sparkling jewel! – to her neighbors, friends, and family.

She is survived by her six grandchildren, Dani Richardson, Jessie Fensky Johnson (Jeremy), Justin Fensky (Jen), Tricia Rodriguez (Armando), Travis Fensky (Krystal), Renee Fensky; 10 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Private family graveside services will be held at Mound Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hesston Public Library or Hesston Area Senior Center in care of Moundridge Funeral Home, PO Box 410, Moundridge, KS 67107.
