WASHINGTON, DC (December 18, 2025) – This holiday season is delivering cheaper gas prices as travelers hit the road in record numbers.
The national average dropped more than 4 cents since last week to $2.89. This is the cheapest December at the pump since the end of 2020. Crude oil prices remain low, and despite an increase in gasoline demand over the holidays, supply is strong.
Overall, 2025 has been a stable year for the national average with few fluctuations and no sharp spikes.
