The Hutchinson Community College football team has three games remaining in the 2026 regular season and two of those games will be non-Jayhawk Conference contests.

The NJCAA No. 1-ranked Blue Dragons (8-0, 5-0 KJCCC) step out of league play on Saturday to face off against the Northeastern Oklahoma A&M Golden Norse (5-3) in a noon kickoff at Gowans Stadium.

The game will be broadcast on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and on sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) with Sean Boston (play-by-play) and Rob Dreher (color) calling the action beginning at 11:30 a.m. The game will be exclusively streamed on the Blue Dragon Sports Network at 11:30 a.m.

For years, NEO was a member of the Southwestern Junior College Football Conference, but the Golden Norse left the SJCFC after the 2025 season and is an independent. But NEO officials jumped into the KJCCC-ICCAC scheduling alliance before the 2026 season.

Thus, the Golden Norse appear on the Blue Dragons’ schedule for the first time since 2009.

The top-ranked Blue Dragons moved to 8-0 to start a season for the ninth time in program history last Saturday with a 38-0 win over Coffeyville at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

DyVair McCray’s 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown started the game off with a bang for Hutchinson. Then the Blue Dragon defense took over to pitch its fifth shutout of the season, holding Coffeyville to 174 total yards, just 52 rushing yards.

Three weeks ago, the Hutchinson-NEO matchup looked destined to be a Top 5 battle as the Golden Norse started the season 5-0 and climbed to No. 5 in the NJCAA National Rankings.

But the Norse have dropped three-straight games, albeit to No. 2 Iowa Western, then No. 11 Dodge City and last week falling to Garden City in a heartbreak 32-31 setback to the Broncbusters.

Regardless of the record, the Golden Norse still possess one of the more potent offenses in the NJCAA. NEO is averaging 36.6 points and 379.0 yards per game (167.5 rushing, 211.5 passing). Over their three-game losing streak, the Golden Norse are still averaging 27.3 points per game.

NEO will be facing the No. 1 defense in the NJCAA through nine weeks in the Blue Dragons. Hutchinson has allowed only 30 points all season, an average of 3.8 points per game. No opponent has yet to rush for more than 100 yards against the Blue Dragons, who are allowing only 54.1 yards per game. Overall, the Dragons allow 167.8 total yards per contest.

The Blue Dragon defense also has 22 takeaways to give Hutch a plus-16 turnover ratio.
