NICKERSON, Kan. — The Nickerson USD 309 School Board meeting this week was canceled after the board could not come up with a quorum.
The board, which is already down two members, was due to try again to fill those two seats. Four residents had applied for the two vacancies several months ago but were voted down at that time. The matter was to be brought up again with the same candidates.
Another matter for the board that will wait was a renewal of Superintendent Dr. Dawn Johnson’s contract.
Both agenda items have been politically charged and a large group of patrons and teachers showed up at Monday’s meeting to address one or both of those items. In the end no meeting was held.
Johnson says the board can choose to have a special agenda session to address the matters or simply wait until January’s meeting.
