USD 309 board selects CMAR, now needs to get architect

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Monday night, the Nickerson-South Hutchinson USD 309 school board selected McCown Gordon as their Construction Manager at Risk for their $10.5 million potential bond proposal.

"The next step will be to identify an architect company to work with," said USD 309 Superintendent Curtis Nightingale. "We already have qualifications and proposals from three different architect companies. McCown Gordon will help us kind of screen those and determine which company we're going to go with. Then, we'll begin moving forward with actually getting down to the meat and potatoes of what we're going to do and getting renderings put together for all of that."

Nightingale isn't sure how quickly the process can go to get the project to a public vote.

"It's really going to depend on the availability of the architect that we select and that will probably be part of that process when we're having those conversations about their availability," Nightingale said. "Because, how long it takes them to get renderings together, so that we have something to actually show the public as we begin having these conversations is really going to be kind of the important piece of this.  One of the reasons we selected McCown Gordon is they've got a lot of experience doing this and so they're going to have a better idea of our turnaround time and whether or not it's realistic to think about a November ballot or not."

Voters rejected a $30 million bond in November of 2019.
