The No. 18-ranked Hutchinson Community College women's soccer team earned a huge conference point on Saturday.

The Blue Dragons battled to a 1-1 Jayhawk Conference draw with the Butler Grizzlies at the Salthawk Soccer Complex. The point earned by the tie means the Blue Dragons secured a Top 4 KJCCC finish and ensures a home game in the opening round of the Region 6 Playoffs, which start on November 1.

The Blue Dragons are now 10-2-3 overall and 7-2-3 (24 points), which maintains second place in the KJCCC. The Blue Dragons have two games remaining in the regular season. Hutchinson plays host to Garden City at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the Salthawk Sports Complex. Butler is 7-6-5 overall and is in third place in the Jayhawk at 6-3-3 (21 points).

Hutchinson and Butler were 0-0-2 in the 2025 season series.

The Blue Dragons took an early 1-0 lead just 2 minutes, 44 seconds into the game.

Poppy Smith played a ball down the middle to Isabela Puccinelli, who worked to the right of the goal and then flipped a shot to the upper left corner of the goal for a 1-0 Hutchinson lead with 42:16 to go in the first half.

The goal was Puccinelli's seventh of the season and the assist was Smith's fourth of the year.

The game remained that way until the 81st minute when Isabel Sandoval scored the equalizer for the Grizzlies with 9:07 remaining in the second half to knot the score at 1-1.

The Blue Dragons outshot Butler 12-9. Shots were 7-7 in the second half.

Hutchinson freshman goalkeeper Evie Carvell (7-2-3) made three saves, all in the second half. Butler keeper Millie Robshaw-Charlesworth had four saves.

The tightly contested defensive battle yielded only one corner kick, which was kicked by the Blue Dragons in the second half.

GAME NOTES – The Blue Dragons extended their unbeaten streak to seven games with the tie (5-0-2). … The Dragons are 12-16-4 all-time vs. Butler). … This is the first time in series history between Hutchinson and Butler that both regular-season matchups ended in a draw.
