Monarchs come up short again to Cheney

CHENEY, Kan.—It was a tough night Tuesday for Hutchinson Monarchs, who lost 12-4 to the Diamond Dawgs at the Cheney Sports Complex in Cheney.

Cheney takes the series 3 games to 1 with the win.

Cheney got on the board in the first inning when Lincoln Andrews homered on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs. The Dawgs pulled away for good with three runs in the third inning when Andrews homered again, scoring three runs. Andrews was 4-5 with 6 RBI's on the night including 3 home runs.

Cheney tacked on four runs in the seventh inning. Cheney's big inning was driven by a home run by Jaxson Holder and a double by Ryan Scott who stayed hot from Monday night. The Diamond Dawgs pounded out 12 runs on 11 hits while committing 1 error. Hutchinson was able to produce 4 runs on 8 hits and no errors. Jimmy Blumberg was 2 for 5, Will Stark 2 for 5 and Jenner Steele went 2 for 4 to lead the Monarchs.

Caden Castellanos was the winning pitcher for Cheney. Dakota Palmer took the loss for Hutchinson Monarchs. Palmer went four and a third innings, allowing seven runs on five hits and striking out six. Hutchinson tallied one home run on the day. Jenner Steele had a homer in the eighth inning.

Hutch is 5-3 losing back to back games to the Dawgs.

Schedule change: The Monarchs (5-3) return home to take on Wichita 316 Elite on Thursday night with a doubleheader beginning at 6pm at Hobart-Detter field. These games were originally scheduled to be played at Westurban field in Wichita, but a change in location was announced Tuesday. Cheney (6-3) travels to Kingman to play the Islanders.
