Reconstruction of South Spencer Road between East First and Southeast 14th Streets began on Monday in Newton.
Kansas Paving, will build the project in three phases, beginning with the section from East First to just south of Southeast Third Street. The next phases will begin after completion of the previous phase. Each phase will take 8-12 weeks, weather permitting.
During each phase, the road will be open to southbound traffic only.
Total cost of the project is about $2.6 million. The City plans to use $300,000 in federal fund exchange dollars toward the project and bond the remaining cost.
