HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Public Schools Board of Education Monday approved the academic calendar for the 2021-22 school year during its regular study session meeting.
The first day of school for pre-kindergarten through freshmen will be on Aug. 17 with sophomores through seniors returning on Aug. 18. There will be a three-day break at Thanksgiving with students out for Winter Recess from Dec. 20 through Jan. 4, 2022. District teachers will return on Jan. 4 for a professional development/work day.
Spring break has changed. The district will coordinate with the state Board of Regents’ spring break and be off March 14 to 18, 2022, as recommended by the Kansas State Board of Education.
Final day for the senior class of 2022 will be May 19, 2022, with graduation set for May 22, 2022. For pre-kindergarten through juniors, the final day of the school year will be May 26, 2022.
In other action, the Board:
- Approved Graber and Morgan elementary schools, Hutchinson Middle School – 7 and Hutchinson Middle School – 8 to move forward with the school redesign application process.
- The Board gave the superintendent the ability to change the gating criteria for learning models and activities if the community moves into the orange category. Currently, the community gating criteria for education is in the red category.
- Board left daily temperature checks for students in place.
- Approved an updated contract with EAB to provide research services to the district.
- Approved minutes of the Jan. 11, 2021, Board meeting.
- Approved the submitted grant application.
- Approved the sale of a list of outdated or non-functioning technology with I.T. Source, Inc., for proper recycling.
- Approved the Head Start federal financial report.
- Approved the Head Start selection criteria for its waiting list when not enough spaces are available in the program.
- Approved the December 2020 Treasurer’s Report.
- Held a study session on academic alignment.
