Kan. school resource officer chased student believed carrying a gun

LYON COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a student in connection with a gun at school in Emporia.

On Wednesday morning, Emporia Police Officers and Deputies from the Lyon County Sheriff's Office responded to the Emporia High School, 3302 West 18th Avenue, for a report of a student carrying a handgun, according to Police Captain Scott Stormont.

The student was actively being chased by the Emporia High School Resource Officer.

The schools were locked down as were several businesses in the area while police and deputies searched several business and vehicles. The suspect was located and arrested as he was leaving the area in a vehicle.

Police also located a victim of Aggravated assault nearby. Police transported the suspect to the Juvenile Intake Center, according to Stormont.  Police later learned the weapon was a BB gun and  found it.
