HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Reno County continued to find a silver lining in the economy as sales tax revenue set another record for the month of August.
According to figures released by the Reno County Treasurer's Office, the county took in $458,663. That’s more than $45,000 better than the same month last year and another $42,000 higher than last month.
The county has set all-time highs for sales tax collections despite the pandemic. Whether the trend can continue remains to be seen and many feel the higher numbers are being driven by big ticket items and are not sustainable. Still, the numbers show that people were still buying during the late spring when the pandemic was starting to hit the local economy.
To date, the county has taken in $3,122,207 — which is ahead of last year's pace.
The numbers reflect shopping for the month of June.
