The deadline to change political party affiliation ahead of Kansas’ August 4 primary election is noon today, and state election officials say online voter registration services are once again available after a weekend outage.

The Kansas Secretary of State’s Office announced Sunday that the Kansas Online Voter Registration system had been temporarily unavailable because of a system-wide outage affecting all Kansas Department of Revenue systems and websites. The outage occurred just ahead of today's deadline for voters wishing to change their party affiliation before the primary election.

State officials said the online voter registration system operates jointly with the Secretary of State’s Office and the Department of Revenue to verify voter identities and help prevent fraud during the registration process.

As of Sunday evening, the online voter registration system was restored and available for use.

Meanwhile, the Reno County Clerk’s Office is reminding residents that candidate filings and political party affiliation changes must be completed by noon today. Anyone interested in running for office or changing their party affiliation before the August 4 primary election must meet the deadline at the Reno County Clerk’s Office.

The primary election is scheduled for August 4.

Residents with questions about voter registration, candidate filing, or party affiliation changes can contact the Reno County Clerk’s Office.
