HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson City Council approved the painting of Water Tower No. 3 on Tuesday. That tower stores 500,000 gallons of water and is located on E. 11th Avenue, next to Fire Station #4.

"Option one has the white bulb with Hutchinson, very similar to a tower one look," said Brian Clennan with the city.

Since that tower is not in a residential area and the cost of the paint and the stencil isn't any more than just the paint, the council thought it would be a good idea to have the city name on this tower, especially since it's closest to the Hutchinson Airport.

"This tower was last coated in 2005," Clennan said. "It's being updated in 2022, so it's lasted 17 years."

The name will face the airport for those flying in and for those driving in on Airport Road. Bidding has not taken place yet on the project.
