City Council to look at agreement on HUD vouchers Tuesday

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson City Council will be asked to enter into a Cooperative Agreement with the City of Newton Housing Authority as part of its agenda on Tuesday.

According to the background information provided to the council from Director of Planning and Development Ryan Hvitlok, the Section 8 assistance currently served by North Park Village Apartments is moving to the Commerce Gardens Phase II project. However, those currently living at North Park Village have the option to stay there and continue to receive assistance, if they so choose. The federal program to do this is called Tenant Protection Vouchers.

The agreement is for the City of Newton Housing Authority to administer the Tenant Protection Vouchers for the North Park Village residents who wish to stay. HUD initially reached out to the Hutchinson Housing Authority, housed within the Cowley County Housing Authority and they were unable to handle the request.

Also on the agenda for the City Council is approval of appointments to the Hutchinson Tree Board and the routine reports of the city council members and City Manager Jeff Cantrell.

The Hutchinson City Council meets at 9 a.m. Tuesday at City Hall.
