The National Weather Service office in Wichita has issued a Red Flag Warning. The warning is in effect from noon today to 5 p.m. this afternoon for extreme grassland fire danger.
Northwest winds from 30 to 35 miles per hour sustained, with gusts up to 55 miles per hour are possible.
Relative humidity will be as low as 35%.
Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly and become very difficult to control. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
