A previous version of this story dated the beginning of discharge of fireworks as July 1. After looking at the city code, the actual in-city start date is June 30. Hutch Post regrets the error.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The City of Hutchinson and Reno County Fire District #2 will only allow Safe and Sane fireworks to be discharged within the Hutchinson city limits and Reno County unincorporated areas (rural areas).
"Six feet high Safe and Sane is for the city of Hutchinson," Beer said. "You can go other places and buy all these big things that shoot way up into the sky and stuff, they're illegal in the city of Hutch. We'll be out patrolling. We'll be taking calls, so we'll be responding to any complaints."
Safe and Sane fireworks can be discharged daily from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. beginning June 30 through July 4 in the City of Hutchinson.
"Get to know your neighbor," Beer said. "We get a lot of complaints and the neighbor doesn't know the other neighbor. They call, they don't want to be known, they don't want to be seen. They might have a dog that does not like the loud booms or something like that. Have that discussion with your neighbor prior to shooting the fireworks off. That will take care of 90% of the responses that we go on."
It is illegal to discharge fireworks on public property.
