WICHITA, Kan.—The Wichita Wind Surge finished the month of May in a 3-1 defeat to the Springfield Cardinals. In a game that saw all of the runs scored in the first inning, the Wind Surge bullpen significantly impacted keeping the game as close as can be over the final eight innings.
Springfield liked their routine from last night, where they scored four runs in the top of the first, so they followed with three in the opening half of the opening frame tonight on a pair of run-scoring singles and a balk.
Tanner Schobel brought home Luke Keaschall on a bases-loaded groundout in the bottom of the first inning. There would be no more scoring throughout the rest of the night, as the Wind Surge and Cardinals finished a combined 2-for-20 with runners in scoring position.
Marco Raya received his first decision, a loss, on the season, surrendering three earned runs on three hits with a walk and a strikeout in one inning of work. Regi Grace, Aaron Rozek, and Taylor Floyd struck out seven Cardinals over the final eight innings.
Wichita continues their home series with the Springfield Cardinals on Saturday, June 1, with a 6:05 PM first pitch at Riverfront Stadium on the first Turbo Tubs game of the season.
