Norman Richard McVey |1944-2022|

Norman Richard McVey, 77, of Byers, passed away Saturday, February 26, 2022, at home surrounded by his family.
He was born June 27, 1944, in Liberal, to John Hobart and Florence Maurine McVey.

Norman graduated from Kismet High School where he played basketball and worked on the family farm. After graduating high school, he attended Hays University. After his time studying at Hays, he enlisted in the Army, where he proudly served 4 years in Vietnam. After returning state side Norman married the love of his life Bonnie Lock on August 15, 1970 and raised 2 children.

He worked as a farmer and cattleman while growing his family. Norman also spent many years driving a Maintainer for several different counties. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Liberal, KS. Norman had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed spending time fishing, woodworking and spending time with his family. He was always willing to help his neighbors and anyone in need.


Norman is survived by his loving wife Bonnie McVey, Son, Richard (Sue) McVey of Greensburg; Daughter, Rachelle (Joey) Sharp Stanford, MT; one brother, Bob (Janice) McVey of Kismet; 2 sisters, Joyce Buck of Perryton, TX; Carolyn (Ace) Overton of Amarillo, TX. Grandchildren, Renee McVey, Cody (Vickie) McVey, Brett (Halie) McVey, Alexandra (Jacob) Vap, Vaughan Keimig, Whitley Keimig. Great grandchildren, Axel, Ruth, Emersyn, Adalynn. Along with many nieces and nephews.


He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Florence McVey; sister, Sharron Massoni and daughter, Marie Renee McVey.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 2nd from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and the Service will be Thursday, March 3rd at 10:00 a.m. at Hornung Funeral Home. Graveside will follow at Kismet Cemetery.
