🏐 Area volleyball teams well represented in first KVA rankings of 2026

TOPEKA, Kan. — Several Hutchinson-area volleyball teams are featured in the first regular-season Kansas Volleyball Association rankings of the 2026 season, released Wednesday.

Halstead leads the way among area schools, climbing two spots from its preseason position to No. 3 in Class 3A. The Dragons are 5-2 through matches reported to the KVA by Monday.

Hesston is also ranked in Class 3A, coming in at No. 6 with a 5-1 record after opening the season at No. 4. Cheney remained No. 7 at 6-2.

In Class 2A, unbeaten Inman made one of the larger jumps among area teams. The Teutons are 7-0 and moved from No. 8 in the preseason rankings to No. 5 this week.

Moundridge is No. 7 in Class 2A with a 2-1 record, while Medicine Lodge entered the rankings at No. 10 after a 10-1 start.

McPherson slipped one position to No. 7 in Class 4A. The Bullpups are 4-3. Andale, which began the year ranked No. 1, dropped to No. 3 following a 5-1 start.

Maize South remains among the highest-ranked teams in south-central Kansas. The Mavericks are No. 4 in Class 5A with a 10-1 record after beginning the season ranked second. Great Bend moved up one spot to No. 5 at 2-0.

In Class 1A Division I, Little River dropped from the preseason No. 1 ranking to No. 2 after a 1-2 start. Goessel remained No. 4 at 3-0, while St. John-Hudson is No. 7 with a 3-1 record.

Hutchinson-Central Christian rounds out the area representation at No. 10 in Class 1A Division II. The Cougars are 5-3 after being ranked ninth in the preseason poll.

At the top of each classification, Blue Valley West remained No. 1 in Class 6A despite an 0-1 start. St. Thomas Aquinas held the top spot in Class 5A, while Hayden moved from No. 2 to No. 1 in Class 4A.

Silver Lake stayed atop Class 3A, Ellinwood remained No. 1 in Class 2A, Centralia moved into the top spot in Class 1A Division I and Linn remained No. 1 in Class 1A Division II.

The KVA said the records used in this week's rankings reflect information submitted through Monday, Sept. 7. The current classifications are based on 2025-26 enrollment numbers and will be adjusted when updated classifications are released later this month.
