HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson firefighters quickly extinguished a garage fire Tuesday afternoon on the city’s east side.

Crews responded to the 1500 block of East 23rd Avenue for a report of a detached garage on fire. Upon arrival, they found heavy flames coming from a 24-by-24-foot structure, according to Division Chief of Operations Jeremy Unruh. Firefighters made an aggressive attack and brought the blaze under control shortly after arrival.

No one was inside the building, and no injuries were reported. The nearby home, occupied by one person and two dogs, was not damaged. A large portion of the garage was destroyed, but there was no damage to other nearby structures.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Hutchinson Fire Department thanked its response partners, including Reno County Emergency Communications, the Hutchinson Police Department, Reno County EMS, Evergy, and Kansas Gas.
