
COLBY, Kan. — The No. 6 Hutchinson Community College women’s basketball team cruised to an 84-47 win over the Colby Trojans on Wednesday at the Colby Event Center.
The Blue Dragons are now 20-0, 14-1 in the Jayhawk Conference.
The win came in John Ontjes’ 600th career game as the head coach of the Blue Dragons. He is now 503-97.
The Blue Dragons set the tone early, building a 22-9 lead after the opening quarter, and a 43-27 halftime lead.
The Hutchinson offense hit 10 3-pointers in the win, the third straight game the Blue Dragons have knocked down 10 or more.
Jada Pleasant was unconscious from deep, knocking down all five 3-point attempts. She finished with 15 points, a new career-high.
Hailey Jackson secured her ninth double-double of the season with 22 points and 11 rebounds.
Katie Duncan chipped in 13 points off the bench, while Brynne Katcher had 10.
The Blue Dragons finished 30 of 55 from the floor for 54%, 10 of 18 from deep and 14 of 16 at the foul line.
Colby (12-9, 7-8) was held to 36% shooting on 17 of 47. The Trojans went to the free throw line 30 times, converting on 22 attempts. Dessirae Ulmer had 22 points off the bench to lead Colby.
The Blue Dragons will return to the Sports Arena on Saturday to host the Independence Pirates. Tipoff is at 2 p.m.
