JACKSON COUNTY, Kan.—Law enforcement authorities are investigating the death of a man following a traffic stop in Jackson County.
Just before 10a.m. Saturday , a Jackson County Sheriff’s deputy stopped a vehicle for a traffic infraction near the Brown County line on U.S. 75 Highway, according to Sheriff Tim Morse.
The driver and a passenger from Topeka were detained. The passenger stated he had ingested methamphetamine and requested to go to the hospital. The man was immediately taken to the Holton Community Hospital where he subsequently died, according to Morse.
The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office is in charge of the death investigation, according to Morse.
During the traffic stop, deputies seized a quantity of a substance believed to be methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, counterfeit bills, credit cards, and a handgun. The driver is currently being held in the Jackson County Jail on drug and traffic charges. Authorities have not released the name of the man who died.
