JOPLIN, Missouri – Three Hutchinson Community College men's cross country runners finished in the top seven as the No. 4-ranked Blue Dragons won the Missouri Southern Stampede team championship on Saturday morning.
The Blue Dragons won their second team title of the season scoring 55 team points. Hutchinson was running its first 8K race of the season. Pittsburg State was second with 68 and Missouri Southern was third with 108 points. Hutchinson also won the Terry Masterston Twilight Classic in August.
Sophomore Titus Kiprotich broke the Blue Dragon 8K record in finishing second at the Stampede with a time of 23:40.50, breaking his own team record.

Dating back to last year, this is the fourth-straight 8K race that the Blue Dragon men's record has fallen – held either by Kiprotich or Dennis Cheriuyot.
Cornelius Kogo, the Terry Masterson Twilight individual champion, placed seventh at the MSSU Stampede with a time of 24:04.09, the sixth-fastest 8K time in Blue Dragon history.
Just .02 seconds behind Kogo was Esteban Ortega, who was eighth at the Stampede with a time of 24:04.11. Ortega posted the seventh-fastest Blue Dragon time in team history.
Sophomore Farrin Mangelson placed 18th with a time of 24:41.47.
Freshman Esteban Oses Campos finished 30th with a time of 24:41.27, the 12th-fastest time in Hutchinson men's cross country history.
The Blue Dragons next run at the FHSU Tiger Open on Oct. 11 in Hays.
