Hutchinson CC Sports Information
The Hutchinson Community College Athletic Department has released its home game themes for the 2026 Blue Dragon football season.
The 2025 NJCAA national runner-up Blue Dragons will open its 2026 campaign with Cisco College, a team out of the Southwestern Junior College Conference. The season-opening kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 20th at Gowans Stadium.
The Opening Night theme is "Tailgate and Touchdowns." Cool off from the summer heat and head to a tailgate before walking over to Gowans for kickoff.
Following the first Iowa road trip on August 29 and bye week on September 5, the Blue Dragons return to Gowans Stadium on Saturday to open Jayhawk Conference play in another night game against the Garden City Broncbusters for Blue Dragon Football Alumni Night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The Blue Dragons and Iowa Western Reivers reunite for another hopeful instant classic on Saturday, September 26 for Champions Day at Noon. The Blue Dragon Athletic Department will recognize its spring athletic teams and their achievements from the Spring 2026 season.
Military and first responders will be recognized on Saturday, October 10 when the Blue Dragons take on the Independence Pirates in a Noon kickoff.
Homecoming week concludes with the Blue Dragons playing host to the NEO Golden Norse at Noon on Saturday, October 24.
For the final home game of the regular season, Dodge City comes to town for a 5 p.m. kickoff on Halloween.

August 20 vs. Cisco, 7 p.m. – "Tailgate & Touchdowns" 2026 Season KickoffWelcome back to Gowans Stadium and welcome back football! Come tailgate with us before the primetime kickoff. The night football game, which is on the second day of school, is also one of many welcome week activities going on for students.
August 25, 7 p.m. – Blue Dragon Fan FestNot a football game, but a night of fan festivities where the community is invited to come interact with Blue Dragon fall sports athletes, including members from the women's soccer, football, volleyball and cross country teams. Join us for a night of fun at Gowans Stadium for the second annual Blue Dragon Fan Fest.
September 12 vs. Garden City, 7 p.m. – Blue Dragon Football Alumni NightConference play begins as the Blue Dragons welcome in the Garden City Broncbusters for Blue Dragon Football Alumni Night. The football program will welcome back football alumni and recognize former players and coaches during the game.
September 26 vs. Iowa Western, Noon – Champions DayTwo familiar teams face off yet again and for the first meeting since the 2025 national championship game. A new tradition also renews with Blue Dragon Champions Day, honoring and recognizing the numerous accomplishments on and off the field by Blue Dragon athletic teams.
October 10 vs. Independence, Noon – Military & First Responders AppreciationBlue Dragon Athletics salutes military and first responders for their sacrifice and service in keeping our communities safe.
October 24 vs. NEO, 12 p.m. – Homecoming GameIt's homecoming week for Hutchinson Community College as the noon football game against Northeastern Oklahoma A&M concludes a week of festive homecoming activities across the Hutchinson Community College campus.
October 31 vs. Dodge City, 5 p.m. – Nightmare at GowansFor the first time in 11 years, Halloween football is back at Gowans Stadium. Kickoff at 5 p.m. gives all plenty of time to enjoy the football game and still have time following the game to go trick-or-treating. A costume contest is also slated. Bring your costumes and cheer on the Blue Dragons in the final regular season game.
