GREAT BEND, Kan.—The Hutchinson Salthawks Baseball team fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 10-3 loss to Great Bend in the first game of a double-header played in Great Bend on Tuesday.
The Hutchinson Salthawks Varsity struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Great Bend, giving up ten runs.
GAME 1 RECAP:
Great Bend got on the board in the first inning when Jade Poe singled on a 1-0 count, scoring the first run of the game.
Great Bend then scored five runs in the third inning. Poe, Edwin Chavez, and Matthew Moeder powered the big inning with RBIs.
Layton Holden got the win for Great Bend. Holden allowed four hits and one run over seven innings, striking out nine.
Kanon Krol took the loss for Hutch. Krol lasted two and a third innings, allowing five hits and six runs while striking out two.
Krol, Myles Thompson , Kahler Dixon, and Bradyn Rodriguez each managed one hit each to lead the Salthawks.
Great Bend collected 11 hits on the day. Sage Koelsch and Brad Beck each had multiple hits for Great Bend. Koelsch went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Great Bend in hits.
GAME 2 RECAP:
In game two, Hutchisnon’s Kahler Dixon doubled to lead of the top of the 1st inning. Kyle Elliott then walked and Carter Booe laid down a bunt to load the bases. Myles Thompson quickly sacrificed a pop fly for the 1st out but got the RBI as Dixon scored from 3rd on the tag to give Hutchinson an early 1-0 lead.
Bradyn Rodriguez then singled to center to score Elliott and Booe for 2 RBI’s and advanced to 2nd on the throw. Hutchinson led 3-0.
Kanon Krol then singled to left field as Rodriguez advanced to 3rd. Hutch had runners at the corners when Nolan Cunningham gets hit by a pitch and loads the bases, but Zack Hogan strikes out swinging for out two.
Anthony Blackwell then singled in two more runs as Hutchinson extended it's lead to 5-0 before lightning and rain suspended the game in the top of the 2nd. The game will be resumed at a late date.
