HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson fire crews had to close 56th Street Sunday afternoon as they were working a structure fire in the 3300 block of East 56th.
According to a release from the department, they were called just before 4:30 p.m. Heavy fire was showing outside the home and brush was burning.
At the time of the call, winds were sustained at 44 miles per hour, gusting to 55. The outside fire was knocked down quickly, but fire has spread to the inside of the structure.
The fire was contained to an acre due to a joint response on catastrophic fire index days between the Buhler and Hutchinson Fire departments. Damage to the structure was significant.
56th was closed between K61 and Old K61 for several hours while they finished cleanup.
