The City of Hutchinson is bidding farewell to two respected and longtime employees whose decades of service have helped shape the community and improve public services across the city.
Last week, LD Peevyhouse and John Pohl were honored for their retirement, capping careers marked by dedication, craftsmanship, and a deep commitment to public service.

Peevyhouse, who retired from the Utilities Department, brought a unique perspective and wide-ranging experience to his roles. A retired firefighter, he later transitioned into city utilities, serving in the Engineering Division, at lift stations throughout the city, and at the Waste Water Treatment Plant. Known for his steady communication and deep knowledge, Peevyhouse was widely recognized for stepping up wherever needed.
“LD’s ability to adapt and contribute in so many areas made him an invaluable member of our team,” city officials said in a statement. “He brought the same level of dedication to each position he held.”
Pohl, the Construction Foreman for Parks and Facilities, also leaves behind a strong legacy. His leadership and craftsmanship were instrumental in maintaining city-owned buildings and enhancing park amenities. He played a central role in numerous projects across Hutchinson’s parks, from shelters and restrooms to some of the city’s most beloved playgrounds.

His work was also key to improvements at the Hutchinson Zoo, including construction of the otter exhibit and beaver den. In addition, Pohl contributed to playground projects at SW Bricktown, Garden Grove, Robert Dains, Vic Goering, Herman Bunte, Grandview, and Zoo Pelican Point.
“John’s fingerprints are on so many spaces that bring joy to Hutchinson residents,” the city said. “His leadership has helped make our parks and facilities more vibrant and welcoming.”
The city extends heartfelt thanks to both men for their outstanding service and dedication, and congratulates them on their well-earned retirements.
“We wish LD and John all the best in this next chapter,” the statement concluded.
