Today's "Throwback Thursday Collection" takes us to the 900 block of North Halstead on the east side.
After the Farmers Commission Co. Grain Elevator B (largest in the world) was built in 1953 at 6th & Halstead, the company expanded its holdings and became known as Far-Mar-Co. They also built a research laboratory next to it at 906 N. Halstead in 1964. The first photo shows the research center in 1976 with the elevator next to it.
This building continued in that capacity until 1982 when it became the Farmland Agriservices Grain Dealers.
In 1984, it was the PMS Foods Grain Dealers.
In 1998, it became the R3 Cubed Group - Record Center of Wichita - Warehousing Storage of Business Services.
After a period of vacancy, it became the Underground Vaults & Storage corporate offices about 2000. The second photo shows that period of occupancy.
In 2023, UV&S relocated their corporate offices to 517 E. 30th. The third photo shows the building at 906 N. Halstead today, apparently in a vacant state, with the property currently being owned by 906 Hutch L.L.C. out of Wichita.
