Doncic lifts Mavericks with go-ahead 3 with 3 seconds left to top Wolves 109-108 for 2-0 lead

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) β€” Luka Doncic hit the go-ahead 3-pointer and posted his fifth triple-double of the playoffs to lead the Dallas Mavericks to a 109-108 victory and a 2-0 lead on the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference finals. Doncic had 32 points, 13 assists and 10 rebounds for his eighth triple-double in 42 career postseason games as the Mavericks erased an 18-point deficit that stood late in the second quarter and were still down 16 midway through the third. Naz Reid went 7 for 9 from 3-point range for 23 points for the Wolves. His last try at the buzzer rimmed out.

It's not just Rafael Nadal: Retirement is in the tennis air as the French Open starts

PARIS (AP) β€” It's not just Rafael Nadal who has folks wondering how many more tennis matches remain in his career. As the French Open gets set to start Sunday, plenty of accomplished players are getting ready to bid adieu to the sport soon, including three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray, major finalist Danielle Collins and French fan favorite AlizΓ© Cornet. Dominic Thiem and Diego Schwartzman also are ready to say goodbye this year. Both lost in qualifying in Paris. The current group chose different ways and times to let everyone know their plans. And there is always the chance of a comeback, especially in tennis.

Goodrow scores in overtime, Rangers outlast Panthers 2-1 in Game 2 to even Eastern Conference final

NEW YORK (AP) β€” Barclay Goodrow scored at 14:01 of overtime and the New York Ranger beat the Florida Panthers 2-1 on Friday night in Game 2 to even the Eastern Conference final. Goodrow fired a snap shot from between the circles over Sergei Bobrovsky's right shoulder, sending the Madison Square Garden crowd that has been sitting on edge into a frenzy. Vincent Trocheck scored early and Igor Shesterkin made 26 saves for New York. Riding the excitement of having tough guy Matt Rempe back in the lineup, they showed a lot more life after being shut out 3-0 in the opener. Carter Verhaeghe scored for Florida and Bobrovsky made 29 saves. The series shifts to Florida for Games 3 and 4 on Sunday and Tuesday.

Caitlin Clark and Indiana Fever win 1st game of season, beat LA Sparks 78-73 in front of 19,103

LOS ANGELES (AP) β€” Caitlin Clark had 11 points and 10 rebounds for her first WNBA double-double and the Indiana Fever beat the Los Angeles Sparks 78-73 to snap a season-opening five-game skid in front of a Sparks record crowd of 19,103 sprinkled with celebrities. Kelsey Mitchell led the Fever with 18 points and Aliyah Boston and Temi Fagbenle had 17 each for Indiana. The game featured the youth and future of the WNBA, with No. 1 draft pick Clark playing against No. 2 pick Cameron Brink and fourth selection Rickea Jackson of the Sparks. Brink had 15 points and nine rebounds and Jackson added 16 points for the Sparks.

T-wolves struggling to get Edwards going, as another off game has them down 2-0 and headed to Dallas

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) β€” Anthony Edwards had the ball for Minnesota with a two-point lead and threw the ball out of bounds with 13 seconds left against Dallas in the Western Conference finals. The turnover set up the go-ahead 3-pointer by Luka Doncic for the Mavericks with 3 seconds to go for a 109-108 victory and a 2-0 series lead over the Timberwolves. That was one of many possessions in Game 2 that got away. Edwards shot 5 for 17 for 21 points. He's 11 for 33 in the series and 30 for 89 over his last five games.

Pacers put unbeaten home playoff record on the line vs. Celtics road success in Game 3

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) β€” The Indiana Pacers are a perfect 6-0 at home in this season's playoffs. The Boston Celtics have won all four of their road games. On Saturday night, in Indianapolis, the two teams will put their perfect marks on the line in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals. Boston leads the best-of-seven series 2-0 after sweeping the first two games at home. The worst part for Indiana: They might be without All-NBA guard Tyrese Haliburton, who did not return after leaving during the third quarter Thursday night with another injury to his left hamstring.

With revenue sharing coming to college sports, are NIL collectives a problem or part of a solution?

When the NCAA lifted its longtime ban on college athletes monetizing their names, images and likenesses in 2021, there was no such thing as NIL collectives. Now the booster-funded organizations have become ubiquitous and a common way for athletes to cash in as NIL compensation became a stand-in for salary. With revenue-sharing with athletes coming to college sports as part of a $2.8 billion antitrust settlement proposal agreed to this week by the NCAA and power conferences, the future of collectives seems uncertain β€” even though the duties they have been performing are about to become more important.

Josef Newgarden was on top of the world after winning the Indy 500. This year feels much different

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) β€” Team Penske's Josef Newgarden is the defending winner of the Indianapolis 500 and he is a favorite for Sunday's race. A year go, he seemed on top of the world. Since then, he has had to find ways to restore his love of racing. And then he and his teammates were caught up in a cheating scandal that cost him his season-opening win in Florida. He goes into this weekend's showcase event without team President Tim Cindric, who was among several Penske employees suspended in the fallout. There is rain in the forecast for Sunday and the race could be delayed.

Giant comebacks: San Francisco is 2nd team since 1900 to erase 3 straight 4-run deficits on road

NEW YORK (AP) β€” That's three Giant comebacks in a row β€” all on the road. Matt Chapman, Patrick Bailey and their San Francisco teammates have put together a remarkable run of resiliency this week. Bailey hit a go-ahead grand slam in the eighth inning, Chapman saved the game with a sparkling defensive play at third base and the Giants rallied from another big deficit to beat the New York Mets 8-7. After clawing out of a 6-2 hole in the eighth, the Giants joined the 1932 St. Louis Cardinals as the only major league clubs since 1900 to win three consecutive road games in which they trailed by at least four runs. The previous two came in Pittsburgh.

Elliott blasts NASCAR for fining Stenhouse $75,000 for All-Star Race fight it used in a promotion

CONCORD, N.C. (AP) β€” Chase Elliott is criticizing NASCAR for fining driver Ricky Stenhouse Jr. $75,000 for punching Kyle Busch following Sunday night's All-Star Race after it had used video of the fight on social media. It was the largest fine ever handed out for fighting in NASCAR history. Elliott seemed stunned when told how much Stenhouse was fined and said that it seems strange that NASCAR would hand down a fine for something they promoted on their social media platform right after the race. Elliott said, "It's like, 'it's not OK, but we are going to blast it all over everything to get more clicks.'"
