The No. 18-ranked Blue Dragons (10-3, 5-2 KJCCC) face that exact scenario Saturday when the Cloud County Thunderbirds (5-6, 1-5 KJCCC) come to the Sports Arena for a 2 p.m. tipoff to close out the pre-Christmas schedule.
The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and on sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) beginning at 1:45 p.m. with Sean Boston (PBP) and Dan Naccarato (color) calling the action. Hutchinson enters play on Saturday coming off its worst loss of the season, a 79-57 decision on Wednesday at No. 1 Dodge City. The Conquistadors stung the Blue Dragons early with six first-quarter 3-point goals in opening a 29-18 lead after 10 minutes. Dodge City hit 11 3-pointers in the game.
The Blue Dragons are 66-6 in games following losses in the Ontjes era, 2-0 in those scenarios this season.
Hutchinson catches a Cloud County team coming off the high of defeating a nationally ranked opponent already this week. The Thunderbirds snapped a five-game KJCCC losing streak with a 76-68 victory over No. 25 Coffeyville on Wednesday in Concordia.
Camia Muldrow had a game-high 28 points, going 14 of 14 from the free-throw line to lead the Thunderbirds. Cloud County shot 42.6 percent overall, hit eight 3-pointers and went 22 of 26 from the foul line. The T-Birds held Coffeyville to 36.8 percent from the floor.
Cloud County is already 2-0 in the Sports Arena this season. The Thunderbirds beat Neosho County (97-71) and NEO (95-74) in the BSN Sports Tipoff Classic at on Nov 7-8 in Hutchinson.
The Blue Dragon defense faced Dodge City's top-scoring offense on Wednesday. The Dragons face the No. 2 offense in the league on Saturday.
