
Mary A. Roots, 75, died Feb. 17, 2021, at Hutchinson Regional Medial Center. She was born Jan. 12, 1946, in Great Bend, to William Arnold and Marjory Alzenith (Faulkner) Glass.
Mary graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1964, and received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Sterling College and her Master of Arts Degree from Baker University. She taught English and home economics at Pretty Prairie High School, and English and science at Trinity Catholic High School. She ended her over 25-year teaching career as a special education teacher for USD 308. Mary was an active member of Crossroads Christian Church.
On March 18, 1967, she married Roger L. Roots, in South Hutchinson. They shared almost 54 years or marriage.
Mary is survived by husband, Roger of Hutchinson; children, Samuel Roots (Jules Pitchford) of Wichita, Matthew Roots (Tricia) of Inman, Katie Roots of New York, NY; sister, Patricia Peoples of Odenville, AL; grandchildren, Riley and Jayden Roots, and Sterling Roots; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and numerous friends and students.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Marjory Glass; in-laws, C.A. “Bill” and Mildred Roots; brothers-in-law, Frank Peoples and Frank Fee; sister-in-law, Bonnie Fee; and niece, Carolyn Fee.
Cremation has taken place. Due to Covid-19, a memorial service will be held at a later date. Friends may sign her book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday at Elliott Mortuary.
