Police: Kansas man jailed for robbery, vehicle theft

SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a robbery and have a suspect in custody.

Just before 1:30p.m. Saturday, police were dispatched to a robbery and theft of a vehicle at the Kwik Shop, 1414 SW 17th Street in Topeka, according to Lt. Ron Ekis.

Officers quickly located the victim’s vehicle in the 1300 block of SW Western. Officers observed a subject matching the description of the suspect leaving the vehicle and walking into a nearby apartment.

Officers made contact with the apartment resident, the suspect later identified as 25-year-old Devante Reed-McElroy was located inside the apartment was taken into custody without

Reed-McElroy was booked into Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges including Aggravated Robbery, and Theft of a Motor Vehicle. He was also had a warrant through Shawnee County, according to Ekis.
