Sylvester (Sy) F. Hageman |1934-2021|

Sylvester (Sy) F. Hageman, 87, died December 27th, 2021 at Goddard, Kansas.

Sy was born into the Zenda/Willowdale communities, to John and Dora Hageman. He graduated from Zenda High School in 1952. He married the love of his life, Lucille E. (Theis) on August 8th, 1953, moved to Wichita, and together they raised a family of fourteen children in the St. Patrick’s Catholic Parish in Wichita, KS.

A longtime Wichita resident, Sy held several occupations, including aircraft worker at Cessna, residential remodeler, sales agent for Montgomery Wards Home Improvements, and Knights of Columbus insurance agent. Sy was one of the founding members of the Knights of Columbus 4118 Council in west Wichita. Sy served on the 4th Degree Honor Guard and as a Grand Knight of the Council. In his semi-retirement, Sy served as a custodial engineer at the Catholic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in downtown Wichita. Sy enjoyed polka dancing, bowling, boating, motorcycles, his Cadillacs, water skiing, snow skiing, pheasant hunting, fishing, playing cards, garage sales and farm sales, and socializing in general.

In their sixties Sy and Lucille retired to their home between St. Joseph Ost Catholic Church and Cheney Lake. In their retirement, Sy and Lucille were members and supporters of St. Joe Ost.

Sy was preceded in death by his wife Lucille, parents John and Dora, daughter Janet Ida, grandson Matthew Hageman, and granddaughter Jennifer Hays.

Survivors include brothers Ron Hageman, Kingman, Ollie Hageman, Wichita, and sister Charlene Downs, Murdock; Siblings and spouses, Stephen (Deb), Joyce Davis (John), Cathy Torres (John), Gary (Cheryl), Judy Murphy (Mike), Tom (Brenda), Mary Kotrba (Scott), Rick (Rhonda), Brad (Janice), Cheryl Stasiak (Tom), Jean Carver (Vince), Patty Ferris (Ron), and Glen (Erin); 39 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 29th at The Church of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 18218 W. US-54 Hi-way, on the east side of Goddard, KS.

Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 30th at Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Interment following at Resurrection Cemetery, 1640 N Maize Rd, Wichita.
