👟 Salthawks 9th at 5A regional in Hays

HAYS, Kan. — Hutchinson High School had several athletes reach finals Thursday at a Class 5A regional track and field meet at Hays High School.

The Salthawk boys finished ninth in the team standings with 14 points, while the Hutchinson girls were ninth with five points. The top three finishers in each event automatically qualified for the Class 5A state meet, with additional at-large qualifiers to be determined by the next six best performances statewide from regional competition.

Hutchinson’s top individual finish came from Camrynn Harris, who placed fourth in the boys 200 meters in 23.01 seconds. Harris also finished fifth in the 100 in 11.17 after qualifying for the finals with an 11.24 in the preliminaries.

Davin Morgan also reached the boys 200 final, placing seventh in 23.41. Morgan was 10th in the 100 preliminaries in 11.42 and placed eighth in the long jump at 18 feet, 10.75 inches.

Lamar Govain added a fifth-place finish for Hutchinson in the boys high jump, clearing 6-0. Corbin Thompson placed 11th in the triple jump at 35-5.75, 12th in the long jump at 18-0.75 and 13th in the 300 hurdles in 48.27.

Cristian Medina led Hutchinson’s distance runners, placing ninth in the 3,200 in 10:45.14 and 10th in the 1,600 in 4:53.79. Lalo Rodriguez was 13th in the 1,600 in 5:04.97.

The Hutchinson boys also placed fifth in the 4x100 relay in 44.21.

On the girls side, Isabel Castaneda had Hutchinson’s top finish, placing fifth in the 100 hurdles in 16.34. Awak Diing finished eighth in the 300 hurdles in 55.93.

Avery Tecklenburg led the Salthawks in the 800, placing ninth in 2:38.90, while Coryn Knackstedt was 14th in 2:50.16. Leah Foos placed 12th in the triple jump at 30-6.75 and 16th in the 400 in 1:10.47.

Myleigh Mueller tied for ninth in the high jump at 4-8, Arya Byard placed 18th in the discus at 76-3, and Lynette Maciel was 18th in the 100 preliminaries in 14.03. The Hutchinson girls 4x100 relay finished sixth in 52.72.

Bishop Carroll swept the team championships, winning the girls title with 189 points and the boys title with 138.
