Douglas L. “Doug” Foss, 71, died January 3, 2022, at Hospice House. He was born May 21, 1950, in Hutchinson, to Clayton and Harriett (Dixon) Foss.
Doug graduated from Nickerson High School in 1968, Hutchinson Community Junior College in 1970, and Wichita State University in 1972. He retired from Morton Salt as a purchasing agent, after 39 years of service.
Doug was civic-minded and involved with Circles of Hope, Bread of Life Emmaus, the United Methodist Church Kansas-West Conference, and Mount Sequoyah ministries in Fayetteville, AR. He was a former member of AMBUCS, and volunteered for TECH. In addition, Doug enjoyed golfing at the Highlands and watching the Chiefs, Royals, New York Rangers, and his beloved Wichita State Shockers. Doug was an active member at Trinity United Methodist Church, a member of the Serendipity Sunday School class, and held many leadership roles at the church.
On August 6, 1994, he married his soulmate, Jillann “Jill” Anderson, in Hutchinson. They shared almost 28 years of marriage.
Doug is survived by: his wife, Jill; brothers, Dan Foss (Beth), Russell Foss (Janna), Lyle Foss (Debbie), all of Hutchinson; stepchildren, Adrienne Stenholm and Brett Stenholm (Aida); step-grandson, Sebastian Stenholm, all of Wichita; nieces, Melissa Crawford (Brian) and family of Salina; Maggie Lindfors (Noah) and their family of Hesston, and Morgan Schmidt (Nate) and their family of Olathe; special friends, Jerel and Nieta Devor of Foley, AL; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Celebration of Life for Doug will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 10, 2022, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1602 N. Main, Hutchinson, with Pastors Michael Tomson-Degreeff, Kim Biery, and Jeff Gannon officiating. Friends may sign his book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary. The family will greet friends at the church following Doug’s Celebration of Life.
