
The spirit of the Old West is set to ride again as the 63rd annual Abbyville Frontier Days Rodeo kicks off Thursday, May 15, with three days of family-friendly entertainment, rodeo action, and community tradition.
The event opens Thursday evening at 7 p.m. with the Turn N’ Burn Barrel Race. Admission is free, and concessions will be available. Participants interested in entering the race can contact Kaci Mead at 620-200-0388.
Friday night marks Peoples Bank & Trust Family Night, where children 12 and under will be admitted for free. Gates open at 6 p.m., with mutton busting sign-ups kicking off the night’s excitement. The mutton busting event begins at 7 p.m., followed by the PRCA-sanctioned rodeo at 8 p.m.

Saturday’s festivities begin at 10:30 a.m. with a parade through downtown Abbyville. No entry fee is required to participate. At 11:30 a.m., the Ranch Rodeo will showcase cowboy skills with events including Double Mugging, Doctoring, and Trailer Loading. Teams of four can enter for $400 by calling 620-727-1853.
That evening, Gambino’s Pizza Night continues the family fun. Gates open at 5:30 p.m., with free pony rides. The Saturday night barbecue meal served until 7:30 p.m. Mutton busting returns at 7 p.m., followed by another thrilling PRCA rodeo performance at 8 p.m.

The weekend concludes Sunday, May 18, with a Cowboy Church service at 10:30 a.m., featuring music by Calvary Echoes. A community carry-in dinner will follow the service.
