🏀 MBB: Dragons drop sixth straight

LIBERAL, Kan. — No. 25 Seward (15-7, 10-6) used hot three-point shooting to hand Hutchinson (10-12, 5-11) its sixth-straight loss.

The Dragons led for 33 seconds after a quick 5-0 run put Hutchinson up 5-4 a little less than 90 seconds into the game.

From there, it was all Seward.

The Saints used six first-half threes to build a 30-23 halftime advantage.

Seward finished with 12 triples, five of them from Korbin Dowdell, on 41.4% shooting from deep.

The Dragons made seven three-pointers and shot just 31.8% from distance.

The Saints led by as many as 21 halfway through the second half.

For the third-straight game, the Dragons were without leading scorer Kyrell Shaw.

Shaw (21.8 points per game) has been sidelined with an injury.

Anthony Alston led Hutchinson with 17 points. Bobby Cannon (14) and Daleron Thomas (13) also scored in double figures.

Thomas and Alston hit threes on back-to-back possessions to pull Hutchinson within 10 with 2:46 left, but Seward outscored the Dragons 13-7 to close the game.

Dowdell went 5-of-7 from deep and scored 15 of his 17 from distance.

Antonio Williams Jr. led Seward with 22 points.

Hutchinson returns home Wednesday, Feb. 4, to face Barton at 7:30 p.m.
