MCPHERSON, Kan. (AP) — The Hutchinson High girls basketball team put on a record-setting performance Friday afternoon, rolling past Wichita Northwest 70-30 in the consolation bracket semifinal of the Mid-America Classic at McPherson High School.

The Salthawks were powered by a historic outing from junior Tenley Keeton, who posted a double-double while rewriting the tournament record book. Keeton knocked down eight 3-pointers — all coming in the second and third quarters — scored 29 points and tied a Mid-America Classic record with 10 steals.

Tenley keeton. junior set a MAC Tournament record with eight 3point baskets and tied the individual game steals record with 10.

Keeton’s eight made 3s broke a record first set by McPherson’s Tanner Hein in 2012 and later tied by Taylor Robertson of McPherson in 2015 and Hallie Brittain of Valley Center in 2021. Her 10 steals matched the tournament mark shared by Amy Prose of Little River (1998), Jenny Sherwood of Smoky Valley (2001) and Kristin Frey of Hesston (2004). Keeton’s 29-point effort also moved her into a tie for third place all-time for a junior, alongside Deena Holloway of Moundridge in 1997.

Danai Morgan also delivered a strong all-around performance for Hutchinson, recording a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Hutchinson started slowly, holding just an 8-4 lead after the first quarter, but the Salthawks quickly found their rhythm. They erupted for 25 points in the second quarter and followed with 26 more in the third to put the game out of reach.

Ta’Lyiah Lewis led Wichita Northwest with 10 points.

The Salthawks will have a quick turnaround, returning to the floor Saturday to face Shawnee Mission East, which edged host McPherson 50-47 in the other consolation semifinal. That game is scheduled for an 11:30 a.m. tipoff.

In other Mid-America Classic games Friday, Olathe South upset top-seeded Shawnee Mission South 61-59, while Manhattan defeated Andover Central 73-40 to set up Saturday’s championship and third-place games. McPherson will face Wichita Northwest in the seventh-place contest.
