Police: Kan. school district lost $115K in scam

RILEY COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a case of alleged fraud in Riley County.

On Thursday, USD 378-Riley County Schools reported an unknown suspect pretending to be an insurance company scammed an employee by email into sending them money, according to the Riley County Police department spokesperson Aaron Wintermote.

The estimated total loss associated with this case is approximately $115,388.

Anyone with information can contact RCPD or the Manhattan Riley County Crime Stoppers. Using the Crime Stoppers service can allow you to remain anonymous and could qualify you for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
