HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Fire crews battled intense wind and rain early Tuesday morning while responding to a house fire in the 2800 block of Pama Lou Avenue.

The Hutchinson Fire Department was dispatched at 4:01 a.m. and arrived to find flames coming from the back of the home. Firefighters launched an aggressive attack in gusts reaching 60 mph, bringing the blaze under control in a short period.

The home was unoccupied at the time, but about one-third of the structure sustained heavy fire damage. Crews remained on scene to extinguish hot spots, particularly in the attic.

One firefighter suffered a hand injury while fighting the fire. The cause has been determined to be electrical.

The Hutchinson Fire Department thanked several agencies for their assistance, including Hutchinson/Reno County Emergency Communications, the Hutchinson Police Department, Reno County EMS, Kansas Gas, Evergy, and 1-800-BOARDUP.
